The child of a wealthy industrial family targeted by kidnappers
The nine year-old daughter of a wealthy German industrial family was targeted for kidnapping by a four-man Eastern European criminal gang. Several weeks’ intensive research in the print media and on the Internet had enabled the criminals to obtain detailed information on the family.
Initial reconnaissance attempts had the purpose of ascertaining the victim’s routine. In doing so the gang concentrated especially on the child’s route to her school and on her home area. If the weather was fine the nine year-old girl often went to school alone on her bicycle. The perpetrators planned to intercept the child on her way to school, knock her out with chloroform, and transport her to their hiding place in a stolen delivery van.
In this instance it was possible to thwart the planned kidnap in good time. Permanent anti-surveillance conducted by RESULT GROUP specialists allowed the would-be kidnappers’ reconnaissance to be detected in its initial phase and corresponding counter-measures to be taken.
When the police later made arrests, lists with detailed information on other wealthy families, a demand letter for a ransom of €2.3 million, photos of the child, and plans of her house were found. Investigations also led to the discovery of a windowless cellar in a holiday home containing shackles and black face-masks.
